Homoeopathy for Air-pollution related diseases

Sulphurosum acidum - The chemical formula of
Sulphurosus acid is H2SO3.This can be used to explain
why this medicine is effective in pollution related
health problems, especially those caused due to exposure
to oxides of sulphur.H2O or water, a natural constituent
of human body, is present in atmosphere as water vapour.
Sulphur dioxide or SO2 from vehicles, factories and
other sources on combining with water forms Sulphurosum
acidum.It can be written as a simple chemical reaction
given below:
H2O + SO2 = H2SO3
Of sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide, it is the
former which affects majority of patients and this is
why most of patients in big cities who are affected by
pollution respond to Sulphurosum acidum. Some important
symptoms of this medicine are given below.
There is feeling of general weakness with decrease or
loss of appetite. Obstinate constipation. Hoarseness of
voice. Persistent cough with copious expectoration.
There is difficult respiration with constriction of
chest. Coated tongue, ulcerative inflammation of mouth.
Headache better from vomiting.
Note - When given as intercurrent remedy author advises
the patient to avoid visiting areas which high vehicle
density or any industrial area on the day the medicine
is taken by the patient. This is important because in
some patients exposure high pollution levels tend to
neutralize the effect of the medicine.
Euphrasia - Euphrasia is another medicine found
useful for pollution related problems which affected eye
and respiratory passages. Frequent blinking of eyes with
lots of watery discharge from eyes. Burning and watering
of eyes after exposure to high levels of pollution.
Presence of eye symptoms with respiratory symptoms
especially cough. Coughing with lachrymation aggravated
after exposure to pollution.
Non-medicinal management
As people wear sun-glasses to protect their eyes so
should they to minimize exposure of pollutants to eyes.
Washing eyes liberally with clean cool water after an
exposure to highly polluted zones.
Tuberculinum - Tuberculinum seems to benefit most
of the patients who are repeated affected by URTIs
getting worse from pollutants. Tuberculinum as an
intercurrent remedy has given good results. In case of
children bacillinum has given better results. Especially
useful when exposure to pollution brings on cough,
irritation of respiratory passages, breathlessness which
worsens with feverish feeling.
Medicines found effective in few cases only
Spigelia - Spigelia has important symptom of
aggravation from smoke. It has been found useful in
cases of headaches, headaches after exposure to smoky
environments.
Ammonium carbonicum - Ammonium carbonicum has given good
results in respiratory cases which get aggravated from
exposure to smoke.
Medicines found effective in few cases only
Some medicines found effective in a few cases only are:
Arsenicum album, Arnica montana, Calcarea carbonicum,
Drosera, Napthalinum, Nux vomica, Spongia tosta etc.
